I have been working as a nurse for 18 years. My interest in gerontology started when my father had a stroke. With the skills I picked up working as a gerontological nurse, I was able to take better care of him and help him get back to his normal life. My own experience has led me to believe and advocate that family members, too, play an important role in the long-term care of an elderly.

Tough times do not last but tough teams do. The teamwork among volunteers and nurses at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s COVID-19 vaccination centre is incredible. I get immense satisfaction volunteering in the centre and making contributions beyond my call of duty. Each and every single individual at the Vaccination Centre exemplifies IHH’s vision, mission and core values. I am extremely grateful and glad to be a part of this awesome team.

I completed 30 years of service and I have been given a lot of opportunities to upgrade myself and to learn new technologies. IHH is like family to me. Every day I come to work, meet my colleagues and have happy days.

Over my years of working here, I have improved myself tremendously and the way I communicate and interact with patients and their family, doctors and other healthcare workers. I am happy to be working here and I feel elated that my service is valued and appreciated.

Our work is about serving humanity. This means the patient will always be our first priority – above everything else in our life. We always walk in their shoes to understand their feelings and make them aware that we care for them. Showing empathy also gives us healthcare professionals immense job satisfaction.

Excellence means keeping pace with change. It’s a continuous journey, not a destination. As part of a project team, I work closely with my teammates to achieve our goals. We practise open communication where every one of us is motivated to share our views and opinions to solve an issue because we believe in the saying: “Combination is stronger than competition.

The company has provided me with adequate space for learning and opportunities for self-development in every role and stage of my career here. The support and encouragement from my superiors and peers have helped me to achieve great heights. I feel proud to be part of a global healthcare network.

Everyone here is passionate about what they do and take pride in their work. They want to do their best for the company. It is inspiring to work in this kind of environment. We care about each other and want to help each other. This is the longest I have ever stayed at a company and I can see myself staying for many more years because it's so different than any other companies I've worked for.

Our commitment to patients is driven by a passion to make a difference in their lives through excellent care. I am constantly motivated and inspired by my co-workers and leaders. We have a strong support network where senior nurses would share their wealth of knowledge and experiences with the juniors. This helps us improve as we learn from each other.

IHH is a wonderful place to work. Over the last 19 years here, I have gained encouragement, opportunities and the ability to overcome challenges. Supported by colleagues and team leaders, I have grown from a frontline Customer Service staff to become a Clinical Operation Manager leading more than 50 staff today. As long as you are willing to work hard, good opportunities will come your way.
